Sustainability
Quality Materials. Sustainable Process.
Choosy. Meticulous. Uncompromising. When it comes to our materials and manufacturing, these all apply. We start with the highest quality materials, like organic cotton that is dyed with low-impact dyes. Our certified organic cotton is grown on farms in the Southern U.S. by farmers we actually know. After harvest, our cotton travels to the Carolinas where it is spun and dyed before arriving at our mill in Alabama.
We knit socks in very small batches at our family owned and operated mill. Our team of ten (including Mom and Dad) run the manufacturing process from start to finish. And, because our entire operation is under one roof, we're able to constantly monitor quality through each step of the process, minimize waste and deliver a stellar product. We do it all because we know a better process makes a better sock.
We like to keep it all close to home. Our packaging, labels and marketing materials are printed within a small radius of our mill in Alabama and Georgia.
Giving and Recycling. Our irregular socks are donated to homelessness shelters and community organizations in Alabama.
We have some socks that are not fit for donations. These, along with any manufacturing waste, are repurposed or recycled. When recycled, these are transformed into fiber used for carpet padding in the automotive industry.
We can recycle your old socks too! For more info, please see ourzkano Recycles page.

Care instructions
(General Care Instructions & Our Advice on How to take care of your socks)
Your zkano’s should last a long time. Here’s a few things we suggest to help them reach their intended lifespan.
We highly recommend sticking to our washing instructions for our organic cotton and merino wool socks.
Machine wash cold water
Wash inside out for best results
Tumble dry on low heat
Do not bleach
Do not iron or dry clean
Additional suggestions for increasing the lifespan of your organic cotton and wool socks:
How to reduce pilling
Pilling with cotton is normal, especially in products made with a high combed cotton content, such as our socks. To reduce this, we recommend a few easy steps. This is good advice for our wool socks as well.
Wash separately. Do not wash your socks with towels or other rough items (for example, zippers) that will agitate the soft fibers in the wash cycle.
Turn inside out to wash and dry.
Placing your socks in a mesh laundry bag will also help with this.
Bleaching is a no.
Never (ever) bleach your socks, y’all- even if they are solid white. Using bleach on cotton or wool socks will cause the fibers to break down, resulting in holes in your socks.
Drying
To keep your socks feeling soft and to avoid unintended shrinkage over time, do not dry them in a hot dryer.
Using a low temperature setting in the dryer is best for your socks.
Do not over dry them. This will reduce their softness and zap them of their vibrant colors over time.
Though it’s not necessary, our favorite way is line drying, especially our no show and anklet styles. This helps prevent pilling too.
Don’t wear outside without shoes
Natural fibers, such as cotton and wool, will not hold up to being worn on rough outdoor surfaces.
Keep nails trimmed
This will keep those annoying holes from forming in the toe of the socks.

Love the anklets! So soft, no sweating and fits like a glove! The seams are seamless- I do not feel them on my toes!
I will definitely be trying some different styles but rely on anklets mostly. Thank you!
Darla :-)
Excellent quality!
Was in dire need of new socks and the box store packs that disintegrate after a year weren’t cutting it. I had a pair of decent dress socks from a company in New York that was excellent quality so wanted to see if there were some locals (I’m in Alabama) who make socks. Much to my chagrin there is Zkano in Fort Payne and their quality is better than the New York company and the price even tastier! Score! I also got a pair for hiking and long socks to wear with boots. My work buddies got tired of me raving about these so they put in an order also. I’m a basic economy dude with 1st class socks - so I got that going for me, which is nice.
Came upon zanko's website lookin for cotton socks. Liked their story (American made from American materials).
Placed an order, Have ordered several more 3 packs. Site is book marked. Socks are soft, cushiony. Wash well
I feel they are well worth the cost.
I’ve worn Zkano basic socks for several years, mostly low cut though decided to try ankle height, and they fit good. These are high quality socks, made well and wear well.
I love these socks so much! I don’t think I will ever buy another brand. Yes, they are more expensive than what most people are willing and able to pay for socks, but I am fortunate to be able to invest in them. They are organic, well made so they last, and I know that by buying socks made in the US, people are not being exploited. All of this is important to me. Oh - and they are beyond comfortable. All around - I am grateful for these socks!
I love these socks, and I have been ordering them and wearing them for years now. They are so comfortable and stylish. Gina is so personable as well. We see her at Pepper Place Market on Saturdays, and she couldn't be nicer. I cannot recommend Zkano higher, or I would give them 10 stars. Jon
Very soft comfortable fit. They were a little thicker than I thought they would be. Was looking for something light weight to work out in. I like them and wear them to work instead. Like that they are made in the USA!!!
I had gotten the other type of athletic socks and love them, but wanted something thinner on the top of my feet for summer. These are really well made and work perfectly!
I'm one of those people who wears socks all day around the house all year long. I tried to get cheaper ones, but once you've tried these, the thought of going back to cheap ones was so unappealing. So I'll be customer for life. It's like my feet are getting little hugs all day. I also love that the cotton growing and manufacturing is all done in the South.
I like to buy from a business that is in the USA .we are helping people that needs jobs for our families and the socks are made so well . I have my first pair of. Socks i bought I’m still wearing they never wear out . Thank you for all your hard work for making a great product
I've been on the hunt for flattering crew socks that are also made from organic cotton. I'm so glad I came across zkano! High quality, breathable, sustainable, and locally owned- it doesn't get much better than that!
I was amazed that socks made in the USA and with cotton were made better than any socks I have purchased before. Will purchase them again and would recommend them.
I bought 3 pairs of the Tempo-1/2 socks in XL for my son. So glad these are made in the larger size. My son wears these with sneakers and the fit is perfect for a size 13 shoe. Easy care too.
This was my third time to order the Tempo anklet socks. These socks have been incredibly durable. I reorder every time the bottoms of my socks get too dirty because I have worn them without shoes in the garage or on the concrete patio. They are by far the best anklet socks I have ever worn. I'm a customer for life. Thanks for producing such a quality product! FIVE STARS from a happy customer in Kentucky.
These are the best socks I have ever put my feet into! Love the cushy comfort feel! Exciting this is a family owned business right here in Sweet Home Alabama! Y’All!
I usually wear Birkenstock sandals unless I am walking. I bought these socks because I was getting blistering from my shoes and socks when walking. I wore the new socks today and forgot I was wearing tennis shoes. I believe it was because the socks were so comfortable. I look forward to walking in them, and hope they are the answer to stopping the blistering.
My husband likes the softness and quality of Zkano socks. They are wearing quite well. It’s a splurge from buying Gold toe athletic socks on sale. We like to support a USA family owned mill.
I love these socks - cushy on the bottom and thin and breathable on the top. Just as important for me is they’re designed and made in USA and employing my fellow Americans. Excellent product Zkano!
